Skin Cancer Checks & Mole Removal Sunshine Coast

Skin Cancer Checks, Minor Surgery & Mole Removal on the Sunshine Coast

Living on the Sunshine Coast means a life well-lived outdoors — but also one of the highest UV exposures in the world. Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer of any country, and Queensland leads the nation. Regular skin checks aren’t optional here; they’re essential. At Sunshine Vein & Cosmetic Clinic, Dr Hugo Pin offers thorough, unhurried skin cancer checks combined with the ability to diagnose, excise, and close — all in a single visit, in a private clinic setting designed for procedures.

Why Choose a Procedural Clinic for Your Skin?

Most skin cancer clinics are built around volume: short appointments, fast throughput, and referral elsewhere for anything that needs to be removed. We do things differently.

Because Dr Hugo Pin performs procedures every day — from delicate vascular treatments to cosmetic facial work — he brings a level of surgical precision and aesthetic attention to skin surgery that a standard GP setting rarely offers.

What that means for you:

Full skin checks with dermoscopy
performed by an experienced procedural doctor
Same-day minor surgery

for lesions that need removal — no referral, no second appointment, no waiting

Meticulous closure technique
to minimise scarring, particularly for lesions on visible areas such as the face, neck, décolletage, and arms
Cosmetic mole removal

for benign lesions you’d simply prefer not to have — a service most bulk-billing clinics will not offer

Histopathology arranged
for all excised lesions, with results followed up personally

Our Skin Services

Skin Cancer Checks

A comprehensive full-body skin examination using dermoscopy to identify suspicious lesions early. We take the time to review your history, discuss any lesions of concern, and explain our findings clearly.

Skin Cancer Excision & Minor Surgery

For lesions requiring removal — basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, melanomas, and other suspicious lesions — Dr Pin performs excisions with layered closures designed to minimise scarring. Surgery and pathology are coordinated from a single clinic.

Cosmetic Mole Removal

Bothered by a mole, raised lesion, or skin tag that is benign but affects your confidence? We offer cosmetic removal with a focus on the best possible aesthetic outcome. All removed lesions are sent for histopathology as standard.

Lesion Review & Second Opinions

Have a lesion that’s been watched but never properly assessed? Or a result you’d like a procedural doctor to review? We welcome second-opinion consultations.

The Sunshine Coast’s Skin Cancer Risk Is Real

Queensland’s latitude and outdoor lifestyle mean that most of us have accumulated significant UV exposure by our 30s and 40s. The risk doesn’t plateau — it compounds. Dermatologists recommend annual full-body checks for anyone with a history of sun exposure, fair skin, or previous lesions.

The best skin cancer outcome is always the one caught early. Don’t wait for something to change before booking.

A Private Clinic Experience

Our suite in Minyama offers easy parking, a calm environment, and appointments that respect your time. You’ll see Dr Pin directly — not a rotating roster of doctors — and he will know your skin history, your concerns, and your goals.

A note on fees: Skin cancer checks and surgical procedures at this clinic attract a private fee. Medicare rebates apply to consultations and surgical items where clinically indicated. Cosmetic mole removal is not Medicare-rebatable. Fees are discussed at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a skin check hurt?

A skin check itself is not painful. It’s a visual examination of your skin, and we may use a dermatoscope (a special magnifier/light). If a biopsy or removal is needed, we use local anaesthetic—you’ll usually feel a brief sting, then the area goes numb.

  • Spot check: ~15 minutes (ideal for 1–2 specific lesions)
  • Full skin check: ~20 minutes (structured head-to-toe assessment)
If we need to do a procedure (biopsy/removal), that may be booked as a separate appointment or performed the same day if time allows.

If a lesion looks suspicious, we’ll explain why and discuss options. A biopsy involves numbing the area and taking a small sample (or removing the lesion) to send to pathology. We’ll also explain wound care and what to expect while waiting for results.

Any biopsy or excision can leave a scar, but we aim for the best cosmetic outcome possible while prioritising safety. Scar size depends on the lesion, location, and the type of procedure required. We’ll talk you through expected scarring and aftercare to help it heal well.

Pathology results commonly take a few business days, sometimes longer depending on the lab and the complexity of the specimen. We’ll tell you how results will be provided (phone/email/appointment) and what the next step is based on the report.
We are private billing only. Costs depend on whether you need a spot check, full skin check, and/or a procedure (biopsy or removal). Pathology fees may be separate, and often bulk-billed by Pathology Companies.. If you’d like, we can confirm fees when you book.

Sun protection is a key part of preventing skin cancers and sun damage. In general:

  • Use broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily on exposed skin
  • Wear a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing
  • Seek shade and avoid peak UV times when possible
  • Reapply sunscreen regularly, especially after swimming/sweating

Follow-up depends on your findings and risk factors. You may be advised to:

  • Return for a routine skin check at a set interval
  • Monitor specific lesions with photos/measurements
  • Book a procedure (biopsy/removal)
  • Have a results review appointment if pathology is taken
