Overwhelming support for anti-ageing treatments

A recent study commissioned by the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia highlights an overwhelming support for non-surgical cosmetic procedures. The study surveyed 1,022 Australians, with 79 per cent of those interviewed expressing their acceptance of the use of non-surgical cosmetic procedures to diminish the signs of ageing.

The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia views non-surgical cosmetic procedures as a suitable way to look and feel younger.

A range of non-surgical procedures for both men and women have gained rising popularity in recent years. Some of these procedures include: laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, wrinkle injections and laser resurfacing treatment for wrinkles or scars, and skin rejuvenation with IPL.

Thanks to rapid advancements in technology, increased effectiveness of procedures, and reduced downtime, non-surgical cosmetic procedures have become increasingly accessible to more Australians.

Anti-ageing treatments – key influences

The survey also concluded that wrinkles were the number one cause of ageing concern for Australians, followed by posture and stature along with greying and thinning of the hair.

A range of external factors influence ageing skin, and in turn, increase demand for cosmetic skin treatment. Environmental influences include day-to-day exposure to pollution, ultraviolet rays, smoke and other harsh environmental influences. These extreme conditions damage the lipids, proteins and DNA, crippling the cell composition of your skin. Sun exposure is the primary environmental stressor that leads to prematurely aged skin.

“Sun exposure is a key factor when it comes to premature ageing and the development of deeper wrinkles. Australians are particularly susceptible to developing wrinkles and fine lines at an earlier age due to our harsh climate and outdoor lifestyles. This has led to continued demand for procedures that can address the signs of ageing. Additional social factors such as working longer and becoming parents at a later stage in life may also increase patients’ awareness of their prematurely aged skin.” – Spokesperson for the CPCA Dr Catherine Porter.

It’s important to remember that the best way to ensure the health of your skin is through prevention rather than treatment. Avoiding too much sun and taking necessary precautions, drinking plenty of water etc., are essential to maintaining healthy skin.
